Project Update
Restoring Power After Inclement Weather
Jamaica Public Service Co. Ltd. (JPS) has made significant progress in restoring electricity to customers affected by recent inclement weather. Over the past 24 hours, more than half of the impacted customers have had their power supply reinstated. However, approximately 4,000 customers, primarily in St. James and St. Mary parishes, remain without electricity. Outages also persist in several communities across Kingston & St. Andrew, St. Catherine, Clarendon, Hanover, and St. Elizabeth.
JPS crews are working tirelessly, prioritizing safety while striving to restore power to as many customers as possible. The company has cautioned that some customers may not see their service restored until the following day, depending on the severity of the damage and accessibility of affected areas.
Strengthening Jamaicaโ€™s Power Infrastructure
The Supply of Conductors project, awarded in May 2022, plays a vital role in enhancing Jamaicaโ€™s power distribution network. By providing high-quality conductors and cables, JPS is better equipped to address challenges such as weather-related outages and increasing energy demand. The project underscores JPSโ€™s commitment to improving service reliability and ensuring a resilient electricity grid for all Jamaicans.
This initiative highlights JPSโ€™s dedication to maintaining and upgrading Jamaicaโ€™s power infrastructure, ensuring that communities across the island have access to reliable electricity, even in the face of adverse weather conditions.
